I'm now on Patreon! I'm really not sure). But first... What am I drinking??? Bringing back a beer from a live show. It's Lagunitas Aunt Sally, a Dry-Hopped Sour Mash Ale. Not every strong at 5.7%, it is a fantastic sour. Seriously like crewing on SweetTarts as a kid. At the time, building a gaming rig wasn’t my focus… I was actually looking to upgrade my desperately out-of-date home server and NAS. Most recently it’s been rocking a Xeon X3350 Quad Core running at 2.66GHz. This bad boy sports 6M of L2 cache, a 95W power draw at full tilt, and was originally launched in Q1 of 2008. So what’s the plan for today? I’ve got this Beyang x79 motherboard that I actually purchased from Amazon for $130! Unlike the previous MicroATX board, this one came in a retail box, reads as a genuine x79 chipset, and it supports quad channel memory as well as PCIe 3.0. We're pairing it with a Xeon E5-2650 8-Core/16-Thread 2.0GHz CPU and 32GB of DDR3 ECC memory. This should give me the overhead I need to reinstall all of my virtual machines, run Plex, and have plenty leftover for file server duties.
